Your Own Scrapbook Business

Have you ever created a scrapbook for yourself or a family member?  If you have then a home business is waiting for you.  Scrapbooking is one of the most popular hobbies today and most of us have made one at one time or another.  So why not start a home business by helping others save wedding memories, memories of a loved one, or memories of a special event.

So how do start to create a special scrapbook for someone you don’t know?  Take for example a wedding and reception scrapbook.  In order to make one you of course need to gather photos and quotes from various family members and guests.  To obtain these items you will need an invitation to the event, a digital camera and a small tape recorder or a notepad.

Every wedding I have ever been to has a theme, use the theme throughout the scrapbook.  For embellishments use items from the wedding, a pressed flower, ribbons, the grooms tie, copy of the wedding vows, part of the lace from the veil, the wedding invitation, place cards any of the little items associated with a wedding.

If the scrapbook is meant to be a memorial for someone you will need to gather photographs of the person from his or her relatives. Try to get photos from all phases of the person’s life. Ask the friends and family of the person to recall their memories of their loved one.

Should the scrapbook be for a loved one you will need to gather photos of the person from relatives and even friends.  You will need to know where and when the occasion occurred.  Again the tape recorder will come in handy to get verbal memories from friends and family members.  Using a tape recorder insures you get the stories right.  Ask about some funny events, or one word descriptions all of which can be incorporated into the scrapbook.

A memorial scrapbook should be based on the persons life…did they like baseball, football, fishing, sportsman, businessman, or some quirk only the relatives know about…all can become a scrapbook theme.  Were they a veteran?  Were they active in the community? Did they lean more toward the scholarly lifestyle?

To personalize it use small objects from the persons life such as awards, bits of cloth from a favorite dress, favorite flowers, or small presents given them by their children or grandchildren whether it be school drawings or an ugly tie.

Remember to keep the scrapbook you are making tasteful.  Some remarks should be left out if they could be embarrassing no matter how funny you might think they are.

So how would you advertise this type of service?  Make up some eye-catching brochures outlining your services; be sure to include a business card.  Leave them at bridal shops, reception halls, churches, local newspapers or community bulletin boards.  If you not sure ask permission if this is allowed.

Funeral homes, newspapers ads, leave business card at churches throughout your area.  Always act respectfully and with discretion…Don’t wait until the funeral to hand them out…that is all I am saying.
