Affiliate Marketing

For many wanting to work from home the idea of affiliate marketing is foreign.  They don’t know what it is, how you do it, or how you get paid.

I hope through this article I can answer some of these concerns.

First off not all affiliate marketing is the same. If you have done any research at all into a work at home businesses then you have heard the term “MLM” used in connection to affiliate marketing.  MLM simply means “multi-level marketing”.   This is an affiliate program with a slight twist in that if offers you a chance of producing continuing income, or leveraged income, time after time.  You achieve this by not only selling the product but by recruiting others to do the same, and before you ask…no it is not a pyramid scheme, those are highly illegal and no longer a viable option for a work at home business.

You earn money from your sale of the product and a portion of your downlines sales.  As long as you and your downline are selling products you both earn money.  Sometimes, depending on the product, you will earn money several layers deep…your downline sells products recruits down several layers.  Again depending on the program this could possibly go down 5-10 layers or even more.

This type of home business is extremely profitable when done correctly, but it takes time to build, sometimes years.

The second type of affiliate marketing is selling other peoples products without the downlines.  There are several affiliate marketing companies that offers various products for sale; Amazon, Clickbank, Cutting Edge Offers, just to name a few.  These all have affiliate programs where you get paid according to the number of sales you make.

For this type of affiliate marketing to work though you need a website of your own or a blog.  Once you have your site then apply for membership with each of these sites.  Find products within the site that fit your theme, for instance, if you have a blog where you are writing about home schooling then you want products that apply to the subject matter.  You don’t want to be selling cleaning products on a homeschooling site.

Depending again on what it is you are selling will vary according to the program.  All of this is laid out for you when you sign up with the program.

Most people who want to work from home are reluctant to check into affiliate marketing for the simple reason it has gotten a bad reputation.  As with any business a few rotten apples spoil the whole barrel, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a good one at the bottom, you just have to research the affiliate marketing program you want to be involved with.

For more information on affiliate marketing visit Home Work For You, it is my site and I have several articles on there that explain affiliate marketing more fully.
